Innovative Plastics Recycling

Plastics are used to pack all kind of food and hygiene products and many applications (such as cars, phones and computers) are made of it. When plastics come to their end of life, they often end up in landfills, rivers and oceans. On a total European plastics consumption of around 50 million tons per year, half of it is waste of which 11 million tons is land filled and 9 million ton is incinerated to create energy. Consumers are asking for solutions for producing new circular plastics.

Circular polymers may solve the waste issue
QCP has successfully launched a plastics recycling plant in Sittard-Geleen on the Chemelot site using innovative plastic production technology, that is capable of converting high-quality plastics into new raw materials for crates & boxes, bottles, automotive parts, etc. These circular polymers are the only route to solve the waste issue. QPC was founded in April 2014.

Strategic partners in recycling
Because of the heavy investment required in sorting and purification capability for post consumer waste, SUEZ became a strategic investor at an early stage. QCP found another strategic partner in LyondellBasell, one of the largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies in the world.

By combining the experience of SUEZ as a world leader in smart, sustainable resource management with LyondellBasell’s expertise and knowledge of important end markets, the business of QCP will be able to scale as the circular economy grows.

Clairfort coordinates competition clearance
Clairfort coordinated for SUEZ and QCP the competition filings to the competent authorities in China, Turkey, Austria and Germany and provided to local lawyers the facts and arguments for a successful phase 1 competition clearance of the joint venture.
